NYU Commentator
The Commentator was my escape valve from the task of actually studying in law school. Writing up whatever “news” hit NYU, crafting the layout, and, yes, occasionally excusing myself to waste entire afternoons playing around in Photoshop, the law school newspaper was a big creative outlet for me throughout law school. Each year, I handled the spread of photos for the debaucherous Fall Ball. The dance itself wasn’t anything I ever cared to enjoy, but coming up with elaborate collages to remember the event? Best part of my fall! In 2010, with my final collage, I went all out, staying up all night the day before we shipped the issue to press.
Core Curriculum Super Heroes
My time in the Core Curriculum at Boston University afforded me the chance to design a set of six superheroes to be used an unofficial mascots for the class of 2004, featuring the Molecular Man, Leviathan, Lady Sibyl, Mr. Socratic, Doctor Faustus, and the Noble Savage. Compared to my usual sketchy style of art, I went for a very stylized and simplified style, evoking Saturday morning cartoon or Golden Age comic books. They were each shaded using only blocks of solid color to aid in this look. Giant versions of the characters remained in the Core suite for years afterward, and I am still pleased with how the designs came out…well, the Noble Savage still looks a bit off to me. (Thus, they still get their own page!)
